Intro to Data: Tables, Mean & Median

Organise values in a table or list. The mean is the fair-share average; the median is the middle after sorting. Outliers pull the mean more than the median.

First look at datasets

Organise values in a table or list. The mean is the fair-share average; the median is the middle after sorting. Outliers pull the mean more than the median.

  • Mode: most frequent value (useful for categorical data too).
  • Bar graphs for categories; line graphs for change over time.
  • Always ask: who was measured, and what might be missing?
Full statistics comes later in Statistics Fundamentals — here you only build intuition.
