Terms and Coefficients
- Term: product of numbers and variables (e.g. 5xy)
- Coefficient: numerical factor (in 5xy, coefficient of xy is 5)
- Like terms: same variable part (3x and 7x)
Addition and Subtraction
Only like terms can be combined. 3x + 2y stays as is; 3x + 5x = 8x.
Evaluation
- Substitute given values for variables
- Follow order of operations (BODMAS)
