Conjunctions join words, phrases, or clauses — and, but, or, because, although, if, when. Class 6 writing uses compound and complex sentences linked by coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
Coordinating (FANBOYS)
- For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So
- Join equal parts: I ran, but I missed the bus
- Comma before coordinating conjunction joining two clauses
Subordinating
- Because, although, if, when, while, unless
- Introduce dependent clause: I stayed home because it rained
- Dependent clause cannot stand alone as sentence
