Chapter Overview
In active voice the subject performs the action: The chef cooked food. In passive voice the subject receives the action: Food was cooked by the chef. Class 5 introduces simple present and past passive using is/am/are/was/were + past participle.
Active Voice
- Subject → verb → object: Ravi wrote a letter.
- Direct and clear — preferred in most writing
- Subject is the doer of the action
Passive Voice
- Object becomes subject: A letter was written by Ravi.
- Form: be + past participle (is made, was eaten)
- By-phrase shows the doer (optional if unknown)
