Chapter Overview
Class 3 grammar builds on naming words and their substitutes. Nouns name people, places, animals, and things; pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) replace nouns so sentences do not sound repetitive. NCERT Marigold units use simple sentences with common and proper nouns.
Kinds of Nouns
- Common nouns: boy, school, mango — general names
- Proper nouns: Priya, Mumbai, Republic Day — always capitalised
- Collective nouns: bunch of grapes, flock of birds
Pronouns in Use
- Personal pronouns replace people: Ravi is late. He missed the bus.
- It replaces things and animals: The book is new. It has pictures.
- We and they for groups: We play cricket. They are my friends.
Gender and Number
- He for boys/men; she for girls/women
- It for non-living things and most animals
