Differentiation Rules You Will Use Daily

Almost every derivative in practice is a combination of a few rules. Memorise these until they feel like grammar.

Common function derivatives

Worked chain-rule example

d/dx [sin(3x²)] = cos(3x²) · 6x. Outer derivative of sin(u) is cos(u); u = 3x² so u′ = 6x.

When stuck, name the inner function u = g(x) explicitly, differentiate, then substitute back.
